New year, same Vikings.
The sun over Tyr
This is the new set of Borre style oval fibulas of my girl. They are made of bronze by Pærle-Smiðr. The’ll get setted up with som chains and glass beads and at least a knife.
This is the current state of my girl’s glass beads necklace. Like most of our recreations it is looselz based on the findings of Haithabu. The golden foil beads, the blue beam-eye beads, the white and blue ribbed beads and the rock crystal ball beads are made by Pærle-Smiðr. The brown ribbon beads and the disc beads are made by Kjersti Martinsdottir. The red brownish oval beads are made of tempered carnelian.
Not quite my kind of event, but it was very near by, so we decided to take a visit.
I bought the knife on a fair some years ago. It was a simple inexpensive, but solid knife. I intended to do some little carving on the handle and wanted to build a sheath. Latter in the style of the beautiful sheath findings from Gothland. This summer I finally found time to finish both, the carving and the sheath.
We bought this beautiful little thingy on the Wikingertage Schleswig. I fitted a chain for it to hang on a turtle fibula.
This is my current full armor outfit. The chainmal is made of punched and riveted rings. On top of it, I’m wearing a leather armor, which I made some years ago. It really needs an update. The helmet is a reconstruction of a vendel period helmet, loosely based on the Vendel 12 helmet. The sword is again my Hanwei Godfred.
