I’ve started the engraving of the powder…

I’ve started the engraving of the powder horn.

Based on a mixture of a few different period examples, like the one shown.

It is simply cut in with a blade and rubbed down with boot polish, to blacken the cuts.

I’ve started work on one of three horns …

I’ve started work on one of three horns I recently bought.

The first job was to scrape off the scaley material and sand the horn down to a smooth finish.

I then cut the end flush and cut the tip off with a hack saw.

Next I will drill a hole in the tip and then I’ll begin the wooden plug.
